Motherhood is no easy feat. And they say it takes a village, or in the case of our recent event -- a barangay, to raise a child.
Just in time for Mother’s Day, the Drinkka crew (your one-stop online shop for all things drinks) arranged a Gin Spa to celebrate some of our favorite mommas from the village -- the five beautiful, multi-hyphenate moms of Baby Barangay.
Composed of friends Bianca Santiago Reinoso, Cat Juan-Ledesma, Kelly Misa-Fernandez, Nicole Hernandez-de los Angeles, and Patty Laurel-Filart, Baby Barangay (@babybarangay) is a lifestyle and motherhood Instagram account filled with tips, tricks and snippets of their family lives.
As gin o’clock struck, the five ladies put their feet up for some pamper time in the Nail Spa located at the Azumi Boutique Hotel in Alabang, coupled with a re-gin-vinating session on the process of gin-making and the unique botanicals used in its creation.
Gin, a familiar ingredient in many a classic cocktail, is a distilled spirit which gets its flavor from botanicals. Botanicals, meanwhile, refer to plant-based ingredients, and can be used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes.
While it derives its predominant flavor from juniper berries, many other botanicals have been used to create interesting flavor profiles for gin.
Through Don Revy Philippines, which prides itself in “Delivering Tastes of the New World,” the ladies sampled four craft gins made with different botanicals, namely, JJ Whitley, a spirits range inspired by the British countryside, and Whitley Neill, which uses only the purest water and carefully selected botanicals made in England and inspired by Africa.
While the gin sampling was under way, they were also treated to a hand and foot massage, where they were asked to choose from a range of essential oils -- juniper, orange, lemon, and coriander, which are botanicals commonly found in gin. The oils were a specially-picked selection from Scents and Sensibilities, a line of handcrafted fragrances and scenting solutions made with plant-based ingredients and high grade fragrance oils from France.
As more gin was poured into the exquisite glasses provided by Ocean Glassware, Asia’s leading glass tableware manufacturer, the afternoon soon became a highly-spirited occasion full of laughter.
They also took turns creating their own gin & tonic concoctions with the Nine Spice Box from Spice Tonic, which includes Green Cardamom, Pink Peppercorns, Fennel Seeds, Juniper Berries, Rosemary, Star Anise, Cinnamon Sticks, Hibiscus, and Dried Rose Petals; as well as a range of gins from Drinkka’s bar cart and a refreshing range of tonic mixers from Lamb & Watt UK, made with organic blue agave, natural ingredients and spring water sourced in the English Lake District.
It was certainly a fun afternoon of celebrating motherhood, friendship, and a good ole G&T.
So as we end the month of May, we at Drinkka raise our glasses to all the amazing mommas out there!
